BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England men's cross country team added another impressive performance to its 2013 resume, placing second at the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship contested at Rotary Park on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 2).
Roger Williams University ran away from the field, posting an aggregate score of 22 to finish first. UNE (60) was followed by Salve Regina University (100), while Gordon College (103) and Western New England University (136) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Sophomore
CJ Vallie continued his brilliant season, pacing UNE with an eight-kilometer time of 27:15 to place eighth. First-year
Paul Mangiafico also finished in the Top 10, grabbing the 10th spot with a time of 27:28.
Juniors
Peter LePage (13th - 27:33),
Shane Murphy (14th - 27:34) and
Chad Lyons (15th - 27:35) completed UNE's pack of scoring runners.
Jack Ferguson of Roger Williams was the individual champion. He completed the circuit in a time of 26:25.
Vallie and Mangiafico earned all-conference honors with their Top 10 performances for the Nor'easters, who compete next Saturday (Nov. 9) at the ECAC Championship hosted by Roger Williams University at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I.
