BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior
Kelly Coleman scored 18 second-half points to help power the University of New England to a 69-57 win over Rhode Island College in the championship game of the Ramada Roundball Invitational on Saturday (Nov. 16) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
After struggling a bit on the offensive end of the floor in the opening 20 minutes, Coleman came alive after halftime, converting 6 of 9 shots from the floor (2 of 2 beyond the arc) and all four of her free throw attempts. She finished with 19 points and was chosen to the all-tournament team.
Tourney Most Valuable Player
Lauren Hayden was all over the court for the Nor'easters (2-0). The sophomore guard contributed six points, 10 rebounds, five steals and five assists. Fellow sophomore guard
Alanna Vose poured in a career-best 16 points to go with four assists.
Sophomore guard Danielle LeBlanc led the way for the Anchoromen (1-1), scoring 19 points on an 8-for-14 performance from the floor. LeBlanc added six assists and a pair of steals.
All-tournament selections Stephanie Prusko and Vandell Andrade scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for Rhode Island College.
The Nor'easters, who shot 46.3 percent (25 of 54) for the game compared to 33.3 percent (23 of 69) for the Anchorwomen, led 28-25 at intermission before pulling away in the second half.
UNE returns to action Tuesday (Nov. 19) when rival University of Southern Maine comes to Biddeford for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
