Aidan McParland finished with 15 saves, as the University of New England men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) Wednesday evening (Oct. 9) in a non-conference match at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletics Complex.
UNE's record stands at 5-5-3 on the season, while the Wildcats remain unbeaten at 9-0-3. Johnson & Wales is one of only two NCAA Division III teams in New England without a loss.
The Nor'easters tallied the lone goal of the opening half when Stephens knocked home a crossing pass from junior
Anthony Frangione in the 39th minute.
Johnson & Wales wasted no time in the second half in squaring the match. Junior Adam Metz converted a pass from classmate Dustin Hughes less than four minutes into the period to complete the scoring for the evening.
Metz would later hit the crossbar with a potential game-winning bid, but the contest ended deadlocked.
McParland's total of 15 saves was a season high for the Nor'easters' keeper, His counterpart, junior Ryan Dzierzawski, had five stops for the Wildcats, who led 33-11 in shots.
UNE finishes its busy week on Saturday, hosting Eastern Nazarene College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game beginning at 3:30 p.m.
