UNE caps Crabtree Classic with sweep of Corsairs

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- As the University of New England defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 5) at the Crabtree Classic hosted by Eastern Connecticut State University at Geissler Gymnasium, the Nor'easters got head coach Karol LHeureux a win in her 1,000th career match on the UNE bench.

The set scores were 25-18, 25-23, and 25-15 in favor of Big Blue (9-7), which was victorious for the 656th time under L'Heureux.

Senior Maria Kuehl was named to the All-Tournament Team after the contest for her efforts over the three-match event.

UNE was led by senior Angie Brunette with 16 kills and four blocks. First-year Grayson Szczepaniak added eight winners, and Kuehl setup the attack with 23 assists. Sophomore Jalene Kanayurak tallied four service aces. Six players accumulated between five and seven digs in the match.

UMass Dartmouth (4-13) had taken the previous seven dates between the teams, leading up to the match.

The Nor'easters resume Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Wednesday (6 p.m.) at Curry College.
