Kaitlyn Hall scored with just over 20 minutes remaining to break a 1-all tie, and the University of New England Nor'easters tacked on a late insurance goal to take a 3-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer win over Salve Regina University Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon at Reynolds Field.
UNE picked up its second straight victory to improve to 6-4-1 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0-1. The Seahawks dropped to 2-9-1 (0-4-0 CCC).
The Nor'easters trailed early as Lauren Bulk rattled a shot off the crossbar and into the net to give the host Seahawks a 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute.
Big Blue would tie the match in the 33rd minute when first-year
Jessica Meader drew the Seahawk keeper off her line and slid a low shot just inside the left post for her first collegiate tally.
Hall's game-winner came at the 69:11 mark. Junior
Margaret Palmer found Hall at the front of the goal mouth, and Hall one-timed the pass into the net.
UNE would add another goal in the 81st minute when sophomore
Jackie Dickerson notched her third goal of the year.
Rookie goalkeeper
Brielle Robinson improved her record to 3-0 with five saves for the Nor'easters, who led 24-8 in shots.
Jacqueline McPherson had a busy afternoon for the Seahawks. She stopped 13 shots.
The Nor'easters return to action Thursday (Oct. 10) when they head to Lewiston to take on Bates College in a 7:30 p.m. start.
