Seahawks tally pair of 2nd-half goals to blank UNE

Box Score

NEWPORT, R.I. -- Evan Dudney and Devin L'Heureux scored in the second half to give the host Salve Regina University Seahawks a 2-0 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer match Saturday (Oct. 5) afternoon at Reynolds Field.

The reigning CCC champion Seahawks won their third straight match to even their record at 5-5-1, 2-2 in conference play. UNE slips below the .500 mark at 4-5-2 (0-3-1 CCC).

Dudney gave Salve enough offense for the win, booting home a crossing pass from Alec Shuman for his first goal of the season, which came in the 54th minute.

The Seahawks would add an insurance goal in the 81st minute when L'Heureux chipped in a crossing pass by Joseph Pate.

Salve controlled play throughout much of the afternoon, piling up a 25-3 margin in shots and 10-2 edge in corner kicks. Daniel Stern was credited with the shutout to run his keeper mark to 4-1-1.

Senior Aidan McParland came up with 12 saves for the Nor'easters -- his fifth consecutive match with a double-digit total for saves.

UNE will look to get back into the win column Monday. Big Blue makes the short trip to Gorham to take on rival University of Southern Maine (4 p.m.).
