BOSTON -- Junior
Kaitlyn Hall found the back of the net twice in a span of 3:06 early in the 2nd half to erase a two-goal deficit as the University of New England and Wentworth Institute of Technology played to a 2-2 double overtime tie on Tuesday (Oct. 29) in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) regular-season finale at Sweeney Field.
The Nor'easters (8-8-2) and Leopards (6-8-4) both finish the conference slate with a record of 4-3-2, and will have to wait until Wednesday evening to find out where they fall in the final standings. A home game in Saturday's quarterfinal round of the postseason championship is still up for grabs.
After UNE junior
Margaret Palmer put the game's first real scoring opportunity (16th minute) off the crossbar, it was Wentworth junior Olivia Moore who lifted the hosts in front in the 29th minute, cashing in on a feed from first-year Morgan Miller.
A mere 37 seconds later the Leopards made it 2-0, as Moore had a shot denied but the rebound fell to first-year Amanda Weinberger to knock in. WIT took the same cushion into halftime.
In the 50th minute, Hall trimmed things to 2-1 with an assist going to Palmer. Hall struck again a few minutes later off a pass from first-year
Taylor Littlefield, leveling the match at 2-2.
Both sides had chances down the stretch and in the overtime sessions, but neither team could find the deciding marker.
First-year
Brielle Robinson made six saves in goal for UNE. For Wentworth, junior Nichole Leahey made three stops in the final 51:21 of action after replacing sophomore Miranda Stuckey, who turned aside four shots over the initial 58:39 of the game.
