Box Score
BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Endicott College scored seven times over the final 18:57 -- including a hat-trick by first-year Jessica Joseph -- to take an 8-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer win over the University of New England on Saturday (Oct. 26) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The victory is the fifth in a row for the Gulls, who improve to 12-5-1 overall, 7-1-0 in conference play. UNE, which is still in contention to host a first-round playoff game, drops to 8-8-1 overall, 4-3-1 in CCC games.
After the two teams played to a 1-1 tie in the first half, Endicott sophomore Laura Wysocki (Somers, Conn.) lofted a high shot into the left side of the goal to give the Gulls the lead for good at the 56:01 mark.
The visitors would pour it on late behind the play of Joseph. The rookie scored three times in a span of 8:37 to help Endicott pull away. Junior Ally George and sophomores Audrey Parolin and Stacy Tomlinson also found the back of the net, as the Gulls registered their highest number of the season on the scoreboard.
The first half was a tight affair. Senior Heather Moody directed a low shot from the right side of the box into the left portion of the goal to provide Endicott with a 1-0 advantage in the 21st minute.
UNE got the equalizer in the 41st minute when junior
Margaret Palmer drove a left-footed shot off Endicott goalkeeper Katie Donnelly's outstretched hands for her team-high ninth marker.
The Nor'easters led 7-6 in shots over the opening 45 minutes before momentum shifted in the second stanza.
Donnelly had five saves to record the win for the Gulls, who received a pair of assists from sophomore LeeAnn Card.
First-year
Brielle Robinson stopped two shots for UNE before giving way to senior
Gina Iannazzi, who had three saves in almost 13 minutes of playing time.
Both teams wrap up their regular season Tuesday. Endicott hosts nearby rival Gordon College at 4 p.m. and the Nor'easters head to Boston to take on Wentworth Institute of Technology in a match also starting at 4 p.m.
