Big second half helps Gulls fly past Nor'easters

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Brion Likaj scored a pair of second-half goals to help the Endicott College Gulls break open a close game on their way to a 3-0 shutout victory of the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 26) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

With the win, the Gulls climb over the .500 mark (9-8-0) while evening their conference record at 4-4-0. UNE fell for the third straight outing to drop to 6-8-3 overall, 1-6-1 in CCC matches.

After the two teams played a scoreless first half, Likaj gave Endicott all the offense it would need with his first collegiate goal, which came in the 54th minute. Junior Abdulla Al Khalifa started the set piece with a service from the far right, which Likaj headed into the back of the net.

The Gulls received an insurance goal in the 68th minute when Al Khalifa one-timed a cross by first-year Edwin Demoya for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Likaj completed the scoring less than three minutes later, converting from close range on a play assisted by Demoya and senior Ryan D'Amico.

Sophomore Austin Peluso went the distance in goal to register his sixth shutout for the Gulls.

Junior goalkeeper Aidan McParland had a busy day for the Nor'easters, totaling 10 stops.

Both teams conclude the regular season with 7 p.m. matches Tuesday (Oct. 29). Endicott hosts Gordon College, while UNE visits Wentworth Institute of Technology.
