BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Angie Brunette tallied 10 kills and a pair of blocks to lead the University of New England to a 3-0 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball action Wednesday evening (Oct. 23) at the Harold Alfond Forum. Set scores were 25-12, 25-21, and 25-21.

Behind their fifth consecutive sweep, the Nor'easters improve to 13-7 overall and 4-1 in CCC matches. The Lions' win streak ends at four, as ENC dips back to 13-14 on the year (1-4 CCC). Big Blue has won the last 10 meetings between the teams.

After Brunette, first-year Grayson Szczepaniak added seven kills. Senior Maria Kuehl setup the balanced and efficient UNE attack with 25 assists, to go along with nine digs and three service aces. Senior Kirsta Adie totaled a match-best 10 digs, while junior Leah Janelle finished with eight digs and six kills.

Eastern Nazarene received a match-high 15 kills from senior Cayla Clinkscale, who also recorded a team-best eight digs. Junior Kortney Jenkins registered eight kills as well as seven digs in support, and first-year Lauryl Berger dished out 25 assists.

The Nor'easters used a 6-0 spurt near the midway point of the 1st set to break open an 8-5 lead on the way to doubling up the visitors in the initial frame.

In the 2nd stanza, things were much closer. The Lions claimed five points in a stretch of six to go up 11-10, but then fell behind at 13-12. Though ENC managed to tie things at 16-all, UNE did not trail again in the set.

Eastern Nazaene captured four points in-a-row out of a timeout late in the 3rd set to assume a 20-19 edge, and prompt a timeout from the hosts. Three unanswered by Big Blue -- coming on kills from Szczepaniak and Brunette and an ace by Szczepaniak -- gave the Nor'easters a cushion they would not relinquish, and Brunette tacked on two more winners moments later to seal the match.

Both squads hit the road for league dates in their next outing. UNE heads to Salve Regina University (5-1 CCC and in a three-way tie atop the standings) for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday. The Lions visit Endicott College on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
