Hayes' golden goal lifts Gordon past Nor'easters

Box Score

WENHAM, Mass. -- Lauren Hayes scored the lone tally of the match 2:04 into the second overtime period to give the Gordon College Fighting Scots a 1-0 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's soccer match Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 23) at The Quad.

With the win, the Fighting Scots remain atop the conference standings with a perfect 7-0 ledger while improving to 15-2 overall. The Nor'easters are 8-7-1, 4-2-1 in CCC matches.

The game-winner by Hayes came on a rebound off a save by UNE goalkeeper Brielle Robinson. It was Hayes' seventh marker of the season.

Scoring chances were tough to come by for both teams. Despite combining for 51 shots (UNE led 26-25), just 18 were on-goal.

Robinson finished with a season-high 11 saves for the Nor'easters, while Gordon keeper McKenzie Dion stopped six shots.

UNE will look to halt its two-game losing skid on Senior Day this Saturday (Oct. 26) when Endicott College comes to Biddeford for a noon kick-off.
