BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Scott Boucher headed home a corner kick from junior Andre Brueckner in the 57th minute to give Roger Williams University a 1-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 19) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Brueckner put the corner service over a cluster of players in the middle of the box, and Boucher rose above the defenders in front of him to knock his first goal of the season under the crossbar.

Unbeaten in their last six outings, the Hawks improve to 13-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in league action. The loss was the first in four contests for the Nor'easters (6-6-3), who fall to 1-4-1 in CCC games.

Shots were 22-9 in favor of RWU, which also had an 11-4 advantage in corners.

UNE's two best scoring chances came moments apart just past the midway point of the 1st half. Sophomore Tyler Garnick sent a header fractionally wide of the left post in the 27th minute, and then Garnick put a hard shot on target in the 30th minute as he rushed into the left side of the box, forcing Hawks junior goalie Tom Mangels to make a stop.

Mangels totaled four saves in the match, while Big Blue sophomore Nate Diffin turned aside six shots for the hosts, coming up with a pair of key stops in the 2nd half to keep the margin at one.

Roger Williams returns home to face Curry College on Wednesday (7 p.m.). The Nor'easters head to No. 22 Gordon College the same day for a 7 p.m. date with the nationally-ranked Fighting Scots.
