UNE rolls past St. Joe's for fourth straight win

STANDISH, Maine -- The University of New England women's volleyball team downed Saint Joseph's College of Maine in straight sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-14) for their fourth consecutive victory in a non-conference match played Thursday evening (Oct. 17) at the Harold Alfond Center.

The Nor'easters improved to 12-7 overall and swept the season series with St. Joe's, now 16-7. The victory was the 27th in a row over the Monks for Big Blue.

Senior Angie Brunette had 11 kills to pace the UNE attack. First-year Grayson Szczepaniak contributed seven kills and served up three of the Nor'easters' 16 service aces. Rookie Erika Sawicki chipped in five kills, while senior Maria Kuehl set-up the attack with 32 assists to go with three aces. Sophomore Jalene Kanayurak and first-year Nikki Mathewson led all players with four aces apiece, and senior Kirsta Adie paced Big Blue with 12 digs.

Sophomore Felicia Wachowiak recorded a match-best 12 kills to lead the way for the Monks. Senior Erica Russi was credited with a match-high 16 digs.

UNE has nearly a week off before hosting a Commonwealth Coast Conference match next Wednesday (Oct. 23) versus Eastern Nazarene College. Start time at the Harold Alfond Forum is 7 p.m.
