Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England scored three times in the final 27 minutes to register a 3-0 win over Eastern Nazarene College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 12) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

With the victory, the Nor'easters (7-5-1) remain unbeaten in league play at 4-0-1 past the midway point of the conference season. The Lions (1-3 CCC) drop to 8-5 overall with their fourth straight setback.

Junior Margaret Palmer scored twice for Big Blue, upping her team-leading total to six. Senior Katy Marshall tallied the other marker for UNE.

After a 1st half that saw just two shots between the teams put on-target, play opened up a bit following halftime. Eastern Nazarene had its best scoring chance of the day in the 57th minute, when junior Abby Spitler worked her way into the box from the right wing and tried to slot an attempt near-post. UNE first-year goalie Brielle Robinson covered it well, though, making a diving stop to keep things scoreless.

Shots were 10-4 in favor of the visitors when Big Blue finally broke through in the 64th minute. Palmer gained possession along the right sideline and lofted one just over the keeper for ENC.

The Nor'easters continued to attack, rattling off the next six tries at goal -- a stretch capped by Marshall heading home a cross from first-year Taylor Littlefield in the 79th minute.

Eastern Nazarene began to apply more pressure when Palmer scored again for UNE in the 85th minute .

Robinson ended with a pair of saves for her second CCC shutout in three league starts. On the opposite end of the field, sophomore Kristen Farley turned away three shots for the Lions.

UNE puts its conference schedule on pause for a trip to the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.). ENC visits conference foe Endicott College the same day (4:30 p.m.).
