Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Back-to-back three-pointers from junior Park Thomas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) sparked a 20-4 second-half run that proved to be the difference in a 54-40 Gordon College win over the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Thursday evening (Jan. 31) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Fighting Scots carried a 19-17 edge out of the halftime break, and led by four (30-26) with a little under five minutes gone in the final frame before Park burried his only two baskets of the night to give the visitors some separation.

By the 9:00 mark, Gordon's cushion stood at 50-30.

Sophomore Hans Miersma (Whitinsville, Mass.) led the way for the Scots with 11 points. Classmate Taylor Bajema (Whitinsville, Mass.) added nine points, senior David Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) chipped in with eight points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three blocks. Sophomore Jason Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) also corralled eight boards, helping Gordon to a 47-32 advantage in the game.

The Fighting Scots (14-6, 9-4 CCC) shot 52 percent (13 for 25) in the last 20 minutes, as opposed to the 33.3 percent (9 of 27) displayed in the first half.

For UNE (4-16, 3-10 CCC), junior Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the squad with 11 points and three steals. First-year Jesse Dykstra (Douglas, Mass.) recorded 10 points, seven boards, and a pair of blocks.

The Nor'easters struggled to find the range all night, making just 27.6 percent (16 for 58) of their shot attempts in the contest.

Gordon returns home to face Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday (3 p.m.), while Big Blue heads to Roger Williams University the same day for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
