BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore Nick Kolb (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored with 2:24 elapsed in overtime to give the University of New England a 4-3 victory over New England College in an ECAC Men's East ice hockey game Saturday (Jan. 12) afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win improves the Nor'easters to 5-9-0 overall, 3-6-0 in ECAC East play. New England College now stands at 5-7-2, 4-4-1 in league action. Coming off a 4-3 triumph over St. Anslem College Friday (Jan. 11) evening, UNE earned its first four-point league weekend since joining the ECAC East in 2008.

Positioned near the left post, Kolb converted a feed from junior Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.) with the Nor'easters on the power play.

New England College had forced overtime by rallying from a two-goal third-period deficit. With the Pilgrims down 3-1, first-year Garrett Brazzier (Mississauga, Ontario) notched the first of two NEC power-play goals in the frame, coming up with the puck after a scramble in front and finding the cage 2:36 into the period. Sophomore James O'Reilly (Charleston, S.C.) drew NEC even at 9:09 when he knocked home a rebound with his team a man up.

UNE built a 3-1 advantage after two periods despite being outshot 27-15 during that span. Senior Russ Franey (York, Maine) scored the first Nor'easter goal and assisted on the next two to help spark Big Blue.

After Franey's early goal, NEC senior Johan Qvarfordt (Sodertalje, Sweden) tied the contest with an unassisted marker.

First-year Ryan Quinn (Burlington, Mass.) scored late in the first to give the Nor'easters a 2-1 cushion, then sophomore Jared Melman (San Jose, Calif.) found the cage early in the second to push the lead to 3-1.

For the game, the Pilgrims held a 42-28 margin in shots on goals and converted two of their four power-play chances.

Sophomore transfer Colby Drost (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) was strong between the pipes for the second straight start for the Nor'easters, recording 39 saves, including 29 over the final two periods.

Senior Shawn Sirman (Blezard Valley, Ontario) had 24 stops for the Pilgrims, who play at Babson College and UMass Boston next Friday and Saturday.

Next up for UNE are road dates with Castleton State College and Skidmore College next weekend.
