Nor'easters withstand Endicott barrage for 2-1 win

Box Score

BEVERLY, Mass. -- Despite being out-shot by a 32-7 margin, the University of New England utilized a pair of first-half goals on its way to a 2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference men's soccer victory over Endicott College Saturday (Sep. 29) evening at Endicott Stadium.

The win was the fourth straight for the Nor'easters (5-5-0, 1-2-0 CCC) over the Gulls (5-5-2, 0-2-1), including three consecutive 2-1 decisions over the last three seasons.  In picking up its fifth win of the season, UNE eclipsed its win total for the entire 2011 campaign.

The Nor'easters opened the scoring in the 31st minute on the first goal of the season by senior Ethan Wells (Franconia, N.H.). Sophomore Ian Goodney (East Greenwich, R.I.) received an assist on the play.

Big Blue extended its lead to 2-0 four minutes later when first-year Will Bushey (South Portland, Maine) notched the eventual game-winner with the help of junior Michael Keenan Jr. (Middleton, Mass.).

The Gulls got on the scoreboard in the 40th minute when rookie Jordan Daniel (Wethersfield, Conn.) tallied his fifth goal of the season, cutting the hosts' deficit in half.

Endicott continued to put the pressure on the entire second half -- holding an 18-4 advantage in shots -- but UNE refused to wilt.

Sophomore Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) came up with eight stops to earn the win for the Nor'easters, who head to Curry College Wednesday (Oct. 3) for a 6:30 p.m. game.

Senior Daniel Higgins (South Kingstown, R.I.) had one save for Endicott.
