Bowdoin edges UNE in non-league contest, 1-0

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Toni DaCampo scored in the 33rd minute of action for what would be the game's only tally, giving the Bowdoin College women's soccer squad a 1-0 victory over the University of New England in a non-conference match-up Tuesday afternoon (Sep. 25) at Pickard Field.

After suffering their first loss of the season the last time out, the Polar Bears improve to 5-1 with the win. The decision drops UNE to an overall mark of 3-7 on the year.

Big Blue held a 5-0 advantage in shots through the initial portion of the first half, until DaCampo put Bowdoin on the board with a hard shot just under the crossbar. Carolyn Gorajek registered an assist on the play, after serving the ball into the middle from the right wing.

Both sides had chances in the second period, but could not get any more past the respective goalkeepers. Bridget McCarthy finished with nine saves for the Polar Bears, while and Nor'easters' junior Samantha Guyette (Newport, Vt.) made her first appearance of the season at halftime and recorded seven stops in the final 45 minutes. Classmate Gina Iannazzi (Methuen, Mass.) had a pair of saves in the opening frame.

Bowdoin hosts NESCAC-foe Connecticut College in its next outing on Saturday (12 p.m.). UNE resumes its CCC schedule on Friday (5 p.m.) with a road trip to Endicott College.
