SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Junior Ryan Williams (Brewster, Mass.) scored the lone tally 4:53 into the match to give Western New England University a 1-0 win over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference mutual opener played Saturday (Sep. 15) afternoon at Suprenant Field .
The victory was the second straight for the Golden Bears, who evened their record at 3-3-1. UNE saw a two-game win streak come to an end to drop to 3-3.
Williams' team-best second goal of the season came on an assist by junior Jake Bartnik (East Longmeadow, Mass.). The Golden Bears were unable to add to their scoring output the rest of the way, despite holding a 26-5 advantage in shots.

Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) had a busy afternoon, coming up with a career-high 14 saves.
Senior tri-captain Nick Starr (Somers, Conn.) needed just one save to record the shutout for the Golden Bears, who play a non-conference match at Westfield State University on Wednesday (Sep. 19).
Big Blue also plays a non-conference match that same day, traveling to Clark University for a 6 p.m. tilt.
