WATERVILLE, Maine -- The Colby College women's soccer team overcame an early 1-0 deficit en route to a 5-1 non-conference victory over the University of New England Thursday (Sep. 13) afternoon at Loebs Field.
Colby improves to 2-0 thus far, while the Nor'easters fall to 2-4.
After UNE first-year
Kristin Dechene (Nashua, N.H.) scored in the seventh minute off an assist by sophomore
Jayne Kelly (Hooksett, N.H.), Ruthie Hawley (Poulsbo, Wash.) evened the match at 1 for the hosts with a tally at 21:26. The Mules would take a 2-1 advantage five minutes later when Annie Papadellis (Hopkinton, N.H.) found the back of the net.
Colby doubled its advantage in the 63rd minute on a tally by Emily Anderson (Grafton, Mass.), then tacked on a pair of markers late courtesy of Maddie Tight (San Rafael, Calif.) and Abby Hatch (Wilbraham, Mass.).
Emily Brook (Duxbury, Mass.) and Jayde Bennett (Lynn, Mass.) combined to make two saves for Colby, with Brook playing the initial 45 minutes in goal to earn the win for the Mules, who owned a 17-4 advantage in shots.
Sophomore
Sarah Papapietro (Bonita, Calif.) stopped 10 shots for the Nor'easters, who open Commonwealth Coast Conference play Saturday (Sep. 15) at Western New England University.
