Nor'easters crank up offense to cruise past UMF, 3-0

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters received goals from three different players in a 3-0 shutout of the University of Maine Farmington in a non-conference men's soccer match played Wednesday (Sep. 12) afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The victory was the second consecutive for the Nor'easters (3-2), who got over the .500 mark thanks in part to a season-best scoring output. UMF now stands at 1-2 in the early going.

Scoring chances were tough to come by for much of the first half until UNE junior Kyle McGlone (Peabody, Mass.) converted a rebound of a saved Riley Goodrich (Gorham, N.H.) shot to get Big Blue on the board 4:41 before intermission.

UNE doubled its lead in the 67th minute when junior Matthew Christie (Hudson, N.H.) blasted a shot from 12 yards out into the upper right-hand corner of the net. First-year Finn Ducker (Winslow, Maine) was credited with an assist on the play.

The Nor'easters would tack on another goal 10 minutes later. Junior Michael Keenan Jr. (Middleton, Mass.) crossed the ball from the left corner to sophomore Jeremy Hill (Marlborough, N.H.), who controlled the service on the right side and tucked a low shot just inside the near post.

Sophomore goalkeeper Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) made three saves for his third career shutout and second in a row for UNE, which held advantages in shots (19-7) and corner kicks (5-2).

First-year netminder Chris Roberts (Arundel, Maine) stopped four shots for the Beavers, who play at Bowdoin College on Saturday (Sep. 15) at noon.

UNE heads to Western New England University that same day for a showdown with the winner of three of the last four Commonwealth Coast Conference titles. That game is the conference-opener for both squads. Kick-off is slated for 12 p.m.
