UNE trailed only once in the match (1-0), and led after a tightly-contested 1st half, 7-6. Though the Spartans tied things up a few minutes into the 3rd period, the Nor'easters responded with seven of the next nine scores to grab a 14-9 cushion midway through the 4th.
O'Gorman had three goals and two assists for a game-high in points, and fellow sophomore
Nick Gross (Kennebunk, Maine) also found the back of the cage on three occasions. Three players -- senior
Dylan Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.), junior
Tyler Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.), and first-year
Geoff Bruno (Durham, Conn.) -- each added a pair of markers for the winners.
Junior
Brent Bourgeois (New Haven, Vt.) headed up a strong defensive effort (4 caused turnovers) that saw the Nor'easters force 15 of Castleton's 26 turnovers. Classmate
Jay Letendre (Southington, Conn.) got his second start of the season between the pipes, and recorded eight saves.
For the Spartans (11-9), Zach Davidson and Alex Green tallied three goals apiece. Cam Ormiston chipped in with one score and three helpers. In goal, Eric Horsfield made 16 stops.
UNE finished with nearly double the shots as its opponent (53-27), and ended with a sizable advantage in ground balls (50-27) thanks, in large part, to O'Gorman's match-best nine ground balls.
