AMHERST, Mass. -- The State University of New York at (SUNY) Plattsburgh scored seven times in the 4th inning, on its way to a 10-0, five-inning decision over the University of New England in Game 4 of the Amherst Regional in NCAA Division III Softball Championship Friday morning (May 11) on the campus of Amherst College.
The second-seeded Cardinals (32-9) advance to face No. 3 Amherst in Game 8 of the double elimination tournament on Saturday morning.
UNE (26-13) -- the No. 7 seed -- will next face sixth-seeded Husson University in an elimination match (Game 6) at 3 p.m. this afternoon.
Allison Smiddy and Brianna Clarke each went 2-for-2 with two RBI of Plattsburgh State, and Smiddy scored three times. Brittany Marshall had two hits and two runs, and Megan Price drove in a pair with her lone hit of the day.
Ashley Marshall moved to 23-4 on the year with a 10-strikeout performance in the circle.

Kelly Reid (Nantucket, Mass.) took just her fifth setback of the season (16-5) as she was touched for three earned runs and five hits, while striking out four, in 3.2 innings of work.
Smiddy gave the home side a lead in the bottom of the 1st, lofting a solo home run over the fence in left-center. And it was Smiddy who singled home the Cardinals' second run in the 3rd. Plattsburgh State added another in the 3rd to go up, 3-0.
The Nor'easters put together their strongest threat in the top of the 4th, as a sacrifice bunt moved runners to second and third with one out. But Ashley Marshall fanned the next two batters to get out of the frame unscathed.
Samantha Sapobianco led off the Cardinal 4th with a home run to left and Price hit a two-run blast later in the inning, as part of Plattsburgh State's seven-run surge.
UNE put a runner on with two down in the 5th, but could not extend the game.
