Big Blue bashes 14 hits in 7-1 triumph over Pioneers

Sophomore catcher Ali Stanley had a pair of hits and two RBI for the Nor'easters

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- The University of New England softball team tallied 14 hits from 11 different players in a 7-1 non-conference win over Smith College Wednesday afternoon (Mar. 21) at the Lee County Sports Complex, as part of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.

Three players had two hits apiece for Big Blue (4-4), in junior Erin Grover (Biddeford, Maine), sophomore Ali Stanley (Rochester, N.H.), and sophomore Lauren Rousseau (Biddeford, Maine). Stanley had a team-high two RBI for the Nor'easters, who received one run each from seven players in the game.

Senior pitcher Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) struck out four while allowing four hits and three walks to register her first win of the season.

For the Pioneers (1-5), Sarah Goodman reached with the first of two hits on the day in the 1st inning, and later scored to put Smith on top, courtesy of an RBI single by Catherine Tocci.

UNE responded with two in the last half of the 1st and 2nd frames to gain some separation.

Tessa Clark took the setback for Smith.
