St. Olaf rallies with six runs in 6th to down Big Blue, 9-5

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- St. Olaf College (Minn.) scored six times with two out in the bottom of the 6th inning to move in front of the University of New England softball team on its way to a 9-5 non-conference win Saturing afternoon (Mar. 17) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, played at the Lee County Sports Complex.

The Oles (3-1) entered the last half of the 6th down 4-3, but after the second out of the inning moved runners to second and third, Mackenzie Wolter dropped a single inside the right field line to score both runners and put St. Olaf on top for good. Four more hits followed as the margin eventually spread to 9-4.

UNE (1-1) got one back in the 7th to provide the final tally.

Three players had two hits apiece for the Oles, and Amy Prok fanned four to get the victory in the circle.

For the Nor'easters, senior Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) was one of three players to record two hits. Sophomore Amanda Vaudreuil (Windham, N.H.) also had two, including a double, and first-year Gabrielle LaRoche (Deerfield, N.H.) did as well, with a double and two RBI.

Big Blue led 2-0 after the 1st, 3-1 after the 4th, and 4-3 after the 5th, before St. Olaf came back.

Senior Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) struck out two for UNE in defeat.
