Nor'easters breeze to sweep of Southern Maine

GORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England women's volleyball team improved to 16-8 on the year with a 3-0 victory over the University of Southern Maine in a non-conference match played Wednesday evening (Oct. 24) at Hill Gymnasium.

The set scores were 25-12, 25-10, and 25-19. It was the Nor'easters ninth consecutive triumph over the Huskies, who drop to 7-20 overall with the setback.

Senior Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) paced the UNE attack with eight kills apiece while combining for five service aces. Curran also registered three solo blocks.

Big Blue junior Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) notched a team-high five aces, in addition to dishing out 25 assists. On the other side of the play, junior classmates Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) went for 10 and six digs, respectively.

The Nor'easters are set to close out the regular-season on Saturday (1 p.m.) with Senior Day and the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) finale against Salve Regina University.
