WENHAM, Mass. -- The University of New England women's volleyball team returned to the win column Tuesday evening (Oct. 2) by defeating Gordon College, 3-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match at the Bennett Center. The set scores were 25-19, 30-28, 23-35, and 25-17.
With their fourth consecutive triumph over the Fighting Scots, the Nor'easters improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in league action. Gordon dips back to 9-7 on the year, 1-4 in CCC contests.
Junior
Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) and senior
Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) combined for 25 kills to lead the attack, which was set up junior
Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) with 47 assists. Kuehl also recorded 14 digs and six kills of her own.
UNE was on-point defensively, racking up a total 91 digs on the night. Junior
Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) finished with a match-best 25, while seniors
Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) and
Jillian Goldstein (Lynnfield, Mass.) went for 22 and 15, respectively.
For the Fighting Scots, Lauren Kranyak tallied 18 winners. Keri Hustus and Shannon Peterson led the team with 19 and 15 digs, and Joy Kimmel added 13 to go with 34 assists and three service aces.
Big Blue heads to Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday for a tri-match with the Warriors and Worcester State University. Gordon returns to action Thursday at Salem State University.
