BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Jess Garrett (Las Vegas, Nev.) led a balanced University of New England attack with 10 kills as the Nor'easters picked up a 3-0 non-conference win over the University of Southern Maine in women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon (Oct. 13) at the Harold Alfond Forum. Set scores were 25-8, 25-11, and 25-13.

UNE moves to 12-6 overall on the season, while the Huskies slip back to 8-16.

Big Blue had four other players with at least six kills in the match (after Garrett's 10), including senior Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) with nine, classmate Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) with eight apiece, and sophomore Rachel McGahie (Westmoreland, N.H.) with a half dozen.

Junior Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) helped set the offense with 36 assists, and combined with Brunette to get two points on blocks. Curran finished with four of UNE's 11 service aces. On the defensive side of things, junior Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and sophomore Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) went for seven and six digs, respectively.

The Nor'easters return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) competition on Tuesday at Eastern Nazarene College.
