Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Sophomore Kyle Metz (St. James, N.Y.) notched a pair of goals to lead the visiting Johnson & Wales University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the University of New England in a non-conference match played on a soggy Barbara J. Hazard Field Wednesday (Oct. 10) afternoon.

The win snapped a modest two-game losing skid for the Wildcats, who improved to 8-6-1. UNE dropped below the .500 mark at 6-7.

Despite out-shooting the Nor'easters 13-4 in the first half, JWU was unable to find the back of the net until Metz directed a header off a service by sophomore O'Kyle Corridon (Selden, N.Y.) into the goal in the 42nd minute.

The Wildcats would double their lead in the 81st minute off a set piece when sophomore Dustin Hughes (Holden, Mass.) connected with Metz, who drove home his team-leading seventh tally from close range.

JWU tacked on another goal in the 87th minute as first-year Drew Lightfoot (Philadelphia, Pa.) converted a pass from Hughes.

First-year goalkeeper Austin Scoggin (Mattituck, N.Y.) made the Wildcats' offensive output stand up, registering four saves, including a quality stop when UNE junior Matthew Christie (Hudson, N.H.) got behind the JWU defense in the early stages of the contest.

Sophomore Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) had 10 saves for the Nor'easters, who trailed 24-10 in shots.

Each team returns to action Saturday with conference games. The Wildcats host Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Mount Ida College at 3 p.m., and the Nor'easters entertain Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Nichols College at 1 p.m.
