Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Skidmore College broke through for three goals in the final 4:10, pulling away from the University of New England men's ice hockey team to a 6-2 win in ECAC East League action Friday evening at Biddeford Ice Arena.

The victory is the first in seven outings for the Thoroughbreds, who improve to 5-9-2 overall (4-5-0 ECAC East). The Nor'easters drop back to 3-9-2 on the season (1-8-0 ECAC East).

Sophomore Aaron Beck (Maribel, Wisc.) finished the night with two goals and assist to lead the visitors, and senior Nick Dupuis (Holyoke, Mass.) added a goal and two assists. Sophomore Tony Giacin (St. Louis, Mo.) registered a goal and an assist in support.

UNE got on the board first after just 2:35 of play, as first-year Fred Hein (North Reading, Mass.) won an offensive zone face-off straight back to sophomore Sean Sullivan (Worcester, Mass.), who one-timed a shot into the upper corner.

The hosts maintained the edge into the early stages of the second period, when Dupuis set-up Beck 1:54 in on the power play to tie things at 1-1. First-year Tim Colvin (Brunswick, Ohio) struck eight minutes later, also on the advantage, off passes from Dupuis and Beck.

Skidmore out-shot Big Blue, 15-9, in the middle stanza, carrying a 2-1 cushion into the third.

After Beck upped the margin to 3-1 just 1:22 into the last period, UNE later found itself on the power play and with an extra attacker on a delayed penalty call. The Nor'easters held possession until sophomore Zach Lokey (Elizabethtown, Pa.) gave a pass to junior Russ Franey (York, Maine), who drove home a shot from the point to make it 3-2.

The Thoroughbreds killed off the ensuing penalty, before netting goals with 4:10, 3:10, and 0:08 remaining to secure the win.

First-year Spencer Sodokoff (Greenwich, Conn.) turned aside 22 shots to get his first win of the season for Skidmore, which visits the University of Southern Maine on Saturday (4 p.m.).

For UNE, which hosts the nation's fifth-ranked team in Castleton State College Saturday at the same time (4 p.m.), sophomore goalie Ian Edwards (Linden, Mich.) made 28 saves.
