Big Blue goes to 7-1 with victory over Fighting Scots

Jessica Sweeney had two of the seven individual event wins for the Nor'easters

WENHAM, Mass. -- Seniors Jessica Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.) and Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) each won a pair of events to help pace the University of New England women's swimming team to a 138.5-79.5 win over Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at the Bennett Athletic Center.

UNE ups its record to 7-1 on the year, and has now defeated Gordon in seven consecutive meetings.

Sweeney captured the 50-yard backstroke (30.88) and 100 freestyle (59.46) by less than a second in each, while Shea touched the wall first in the 50 breaststroke (34.48) and the 500 free (5:47.88).

Junior Rachel Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine), sophomore Jenn LaComfora (Worcester, Mass.), and senior Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) also registered victories for Big Blue -- Hanley in the 50 free (27.69), LaComfora in the 200 free (2:09.06), and Wareham in the 50 butterfly (29.23).

Kristen Entwistle, Cassie Buchanan, and Katherine Zablocki each took races for the Fighting Scots (0-9).

The Nor'easters visit Saint Joseph's College (Maine) on Monday (1 p.m.).
