Sophomore midfielder Steven Contestabile accounted for half of Big Blue's final tally

PORTLAND, Maine -- The University of New England men's soccer team scored a pair of goals in each half as it earned a 4-0 shutout of the University of Southern Maine Wednesday evening in a rain-soaked non-conference match played at Deering High School's Memorial Field.
The win was the first of the season for the Nor'easters (1-3), who have now topped USM in three straight meetings. The Huskies have come up empty in each of their three outings thus far.
Sophomore
Steven Contestabile (Rochester, N.Y.) sent in two markers to lead the way for Big Blue, while senior
Kiel Hiller (Galloway, N.J.) added a goal and an assist.
UNE went in front, 1-0, in the 20th minute as junior
Riley Goodrich (Gorham, N.H.) slipped a shot under the goalkeeper. The margin remained one until the 43rd minute, when Contestabile tucked a free kick from the left wing into the far side of the goal.
Hiller opened the second half scoring 3:58 in, heading home a service from the right side off the foot of sophomore
Matthew Christie (Hudson, N.H.). Fifteen minutes later, Hiller set-up Contestabile for the game's final goal.
For the match, the Nor'easters held a 16-5 advantage in shots (10-3 on goal).
First-year
Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario) and senior
Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) split time between the posts for UNE, registering one and two saves, respectively.
Southern Maine, which hosts Worcester State University on Saturday, received six saves from rookie goalie Alex Charette (Fort Kent, Maine).
Big Blue is back in action the same day, opening up the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) slate at home against Curry College (3:30 p.m.).
