Box Score
HENNIKER, N.H. -- New England College snuck the game-tying goal in with just a few ticks left in the opening half, then put in two more in the second period to come away with a 3-1 victory over the University of New England in non-conference men's soccer action Tuesday afternoon at Laurie Cox Memorial Field.
The win evens the Pilgrims' overall mark at 4-4-1, while UNE drops to 2-6-0 with the setback.
Big Blue got on the board first, when senior
Dan Crear (North Attleboro, Mass.) converted a pass from first-year
Zack Bunnell (Amesbury, Mass.) in the 28th minute.
UNE had good possession and a 7-2 edge in shots until late in the first half, before NEC junior Corey Barbo (Yamouthport, Mass.) put a rebound off his own shot with 10 seconds left in the frame to level the contest at 1-1.
The home team would go in front 5:48 into the second half, when a shot from junior Mark Mangini (Derry, N.H.) deflected off a defender and into the back of the net. Classmate Aaron Kolb (New Durham, N.H.) sent in a free kick in the 70th minute to complete the scoring.
NEC senior Robbie Fuller (Lyndeborough, N.H.) made four saves to earn the win, while his counterpart, UNE senior
Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine), registered three stops.
Both teams are back on the pitch Saturday with conference games, as the Pilgrims host Thomas College and the Nor'easters travel to face Nichols College (12 p.m.).
