SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Inna Sergeychik (West Springfield, Mass.) had 12 kills as the Western New England University women's volleyball team defeated University of New England, 3-1, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both squads Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The set scores were 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, and 25-19.

Sophomore Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added 10 kills as the Golden Bears evened their record at 5-5 on the season. Junior setter Heather Mears (Amherst, Mass.) contributed 36 assists to the winning effort, and first-year Grace Kucharski (Avon, Conn.) ended with 22 digs and four service aces.

UNE (2-8) was paced by a match-best 14 kills from junior Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.), who also had a pair of blocks. Sophomore setter Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) had a double-double with 32 assists and 21 digs, and classmate Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) chipped in with 22 digs.

Western New England is off until Thursday when it visits Rhode Island College.
