SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Inna Sergeychik (West Springfield, Mass.) had 12 kills as the Western New England University women's volleyball team defeated University of New England, 3-1, in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener for both squads Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The set scores were 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, and 25-19.
Sophomore Maureen Pollet (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added 10 kills as the Golden Bears evened their record at 5-5 on the season. Junior setter Heather Mears (Amherst, Mass.) contributed 36 assists to the winning effort, and first-year Grace Kucharski (Avon, Conn.) ended with 22 digs and four service aces.
UNE (2-8) was paced by a match-best 14 kills from junior
Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.), who also had a pair of blocks. Sophomore setter
Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) had a double-double with 32 assists and 21 digs, and classmate
Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) chipped in with 22 digs.
