BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior
Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a team-high 10 kills to go with three blocks to help lead the University of New England to a 3-0 victory over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in non-conference women's volleyball action Thursday evening at the Campus Center. The set scores were 25-15, 25-19, and 25-20.
The win moves UNE to 2-7 on the year, and was the 22nd straight for Big Blue over the Monks. After opening the season with four victories, St. Joe's now sits at 4-2 overall.
Senior
Abby Davis (Somersworth, N.H.) added eight kills and 16 digs to the Nor'easters' cause, while sophomore
Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) threw in six aces on top of her 29 assists. Kuehl and junior
Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) combined for 19 digs.
For the Monks, junior Sarah Hawkes (Pownal, Maine) tallied eight kills and sophomore Brooke Dyer (Lebanon, Maine) chipped in with six. Junior Kiah Begley (Berwick, Maine) was credited with 20 assists and 11 digs.
Both teams are back in action Saturday. UNE opens Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play with a road trip to Western New England University (1 p.m.), while St. Joe's heads to Mount Ida College to begin the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule for a pair of contests -- one with the host Mustangs (10 a.m.), and another with Suffolk University (12 p.m.).
