Thomas picks up win over Nor'easters in season opener

Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- First-year Khamisi Lightbourne (Sandy's, Bermuda) registered a goal and an assist as Thomas College earned a 2-0 road victory over the University of New England in non-conference men's soccer action Thursday evening at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Lightbourne set-up the Terriers' initial score just over 12 minutes into the contest, feeding it to classmate Blake Boswell (Scunthorpe, England) who stepped into a low drive from 30 yards away that slipped inside the left post.

Moments later, Lightbourne got into the scoring column, heading in a cross from the right side off the foot of first-year Mattias Schyberg (Stockholm, Sweden).

Thomas (1-0) finished with a 12-10 edge in shots after a scoreless second half. Sophomore goalie Mikkail Crockwell (Pembroke, Bermuda) posted four saves to preserve the shutout.

For UNE (0-1), senior keeper Jon Planer (Yarmouth, Maine) stopped three shots. The Nor'easters are back in action Saturday at Husson University (5 p.m.).

The Terriers are off until Sunday, when they travel to face Salem State University (2 p.m.).
