PAXTON, Mass. -- The University of New England scored five times in the third period to seize control on its way to a 10-2 victory against Anna Maria College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Amcat Field.

Winners of four of their last five outings, the Nor'easters improve to 6-7 (2-4 TCCC) on the season. The Amcats drop to 4-9 overall, 1-7 in league contests.

Senior Luke DiFiore (Gloucester, Mass.) tallied a game-high five points for UNE, with three goals and two assists. Classmate Nick Wilson and sophomore Tyler Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) each added two scores for Big Blue, which out-shot its opponent, 44-20.

Junior Dylan Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) chipped in with a goal and a pair of assists, while senior Billy Davis (North Kingston, R.I.) had one of each.

Tyler Thomas got UNE started in the opening frame, putting the visitors up, 2-0, after six minutes of play. DiFiore made it 3-0 by the end of the period, and Wilson increased the lead to 4-0 midway through the second. Amcats sophomore Chris Summers got the hosts on the board before halftime, to make the deficit three (4-1) at the break.

The Nor'easters out-scored Anna Maria, 5-1, in the third -- the first four goals from four different players -- as Big Blue gained some separation down the stretch.

UNE junior goalie Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) made nine saves as part of a defensive unit that held the opposition to the second-lowest goal total of the season. The Nor'easters are slated to visit Curry College on Tuesday (4 p.m.).

For Anna Maria, which has a non-conference match at Clark University on Wednesday, sophomore Andrew Ellis posted 13 stops.
