PAXTON, Mass. -- Junior Mary Moroski (Worcester, Mass.) belted a three-run homer in the third inning of game one to power Anna Maria College to a 4-1 victory over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference softball action Tuesday afternoon, ending the Nor'easters 19-game winning streak. UNE took the nightcap by a score of 8-0.

With its first setback since March 17, Big Blue now sits at 22-6 on the season (15-1 TCCC). After the split, the Amcats are 12-14 overall and 5-9 in conference dates.

In the opener, UNE junior Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) doubled-home classmate Marie Mantelli (Thompson, Conn.) in the top of the second innings to tied the score at 1-1.

Anna Maria had one out in the third when Sarah Boyda (Oxford, Mass.) bunted for a single. Allyssa Boykin (Worcester, Mass.) followed with a double down the left-field line, setting up runners at second and third for Moroski's home run to left.

The Nor'easters got five runners into scoring position in their final four at-bats, but could not generate any more runs.

Boyda had two hits for the hosts, while Michelle Blackler (Ashland, Mass.) gave up five hits to get the win.

Lyons took the loss as she struck out four, and led the offensive effort with two hits.

UNE senior Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.) went the distance in game two, striking out six to go along with four hits and zero walks in improving to 11-2 on the season. Zablowsky also crossed home plate three times to help the Big Blue cause.

The visitors put up a pair in the second, on a two-RBI double to left-center by junior Maegen Johnson (Standish, Maine). After adding one in the fifth to make it 3-0, senior Stephanie Podolski (Coventry, Conn.) drove in two with a single to center in the sixth. Podolski registered another RBI-hit in the seventh, as UNE tacked on three more runs to settle on the final total.

Johnson and sophomore Megan Gauger (South Paris, Maine) had two hits apiece in the nightcap, and Mantelli scored twice.

Anna Maria's Nicole Hackenson (Mendon, Mass.) was tagged for 11 hits and surrendered five walks in taking the loss, but did have six strike outs. Moroski and Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) each reached base safely in game two via hits.

The Nor'easters return to Biddeford for a conference twinbill on Thursday against Curry College (3:30 p.m.).
