WESTON, Mass. -- The University of New England softball team defeated Regis College by scores of 9-1 and 17-10 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) action Wednesday afternoon at the Regis Athletic Field.
The wins up the UNE streak to 11 games, and Big Blue now sits at 13-5 overall (6-0 TCCC). The Pride drop to 1-18 on the year (0-8 TCCC).
After UNE plated four in the top of the first inning of game one, junior
Julie Bigelow (Montpelier, Vt.) surrendered a lead-off home run in the bottom of the frame. It would be the only Regis hit she would allow in the five-inning opener, as she struck out four and walked a pair the rest of the way to earn the victory and improve to 4-1 on the year.
Game two was tied 1-1 after two innings, before Big Blue racked up 12 runs in the top half of the third to assume control. The Pride attempted to rally with four in the bottom of the inning to make it 13-5, and five more in the fifth, but it was not enough.
The Nor'easters are back at home on Thursday, beginning a TCCC doubleheader with Western New England College at 3 p.m.
