Utz notches five as Gordon slows up Big Blue attack

WENHAM, Mass. -- Senior midfielder Dan Utz (Rochester, N.Y.) found the back of the cage on five occasions to pace Gordon College in a 10-2 win over the University of New England in The Commonwealth Coast Conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday evening at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Fighting Scots improve to 2-4 (1-0 TCCC) with the victory, while the Nor'easters fall back to 2-5 (0-2) on the year.

UNE scored two of the first three goals in the contest, going up 1-0 on a score by junior Michael Pennacchio (Peabody, Mass.), and then sophomore Tyler Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) made it 2-1 midway through the first period. The hosts would not allow another goal the rest of the way.

Utz had two scores by the end of the first period as Gordon assumed a 4-2 lead. The Fighting Scots added one in the second, three in third, and two in the fourth.

Senior Zac Blue (Monticello, Minn.) chipped in with a pair of goals for Gordon, which got nine saves from sophomore Houston Zemanski (Annapolis, Md.).

The Nor'easters, who received 10 stops from junior Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.), entertain Western New England College on Saturday (12 p.m.).

Gordon visits Curry College the same day.
