Box Score

POMONA, N.J. -- Senior Brent Effenberger (Toms River, N.J.) and Matt Bologno (Glen Gardner, N.J.) combined for seven goals and Richard Stockton College held off a late surge from the University of New England for a 10-9 non-conference men's lacrosse victory Wednesday afternoon at the Stockton Turf Field.

After the teams traded scores during the middle portion of the third period to make the Ospreys' advantage 9-4, UNE started to chip away at the deficit. Junior Michael Pennacchio (Peabody, Mass.) scored twice as the Nor'easters strung together the next four goals, leaving the difference at one (9-8) with 9:31 to go in the final stanza.

Effenberger upped the margin to two (10-8) with 6:06 remaining, only to see Big Blue junior Dylan Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) find the back of the cage 15 seconds later. UNE got off a handful of shots in the closing minutes, but could not find the equalizer before time expired.

Sophomore Tim Wolcott (Toms River, N.J.) recorded a career-high 18 saves in goal for Stockton, which improves to 1-3 with the win. On face-offs, Bologno won eight of the 13 he took.

Pennacchio and Thomas each tallied three goals for the Nor'easters (2-3), while first-year Dan O'Gorman (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists, to go with a match-best nine face-off victories.

With the game tied at 3-3 early in the second frame, the Ospreys notched the following five markers spanning through halftime (7-3) to the 13:07 mark of the third, before UNE began to come back.

Stockton returns to action Saturday at home against Centenary College.

Big Blue, which received nine saves from junior Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.), is back in Maine the same day, entertaining Roger Williams University in its The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) opener at 3 p.m.
