CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Junior Ashley LaPorta (Buffalo, N.Y.) struck out eight batters while classmate Lauren Larson (Lakewood, N.Y.) and sophomore Hannah Vesneske (Hamburg, N.Y.) combined for seven RBI as the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia earned a 10-1, five-inning win over the University of New England in softball action at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Monday morning.

Vesneske went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a solo home run in the fourth inning that was the first of four runs the Blue Devils (7-0) would score in the frame. Larson had two hits and drove in four -- two of which came on a two-out double in the second inning.

For UNE (0-3), junior Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) knocked in the only run of the day with a first-inning double, scoring classmate Maegen Johnson (Standish, Maine) on the play.

Junior pitcher Julie Bigelow (Montpelier, Vt.) recorded two strikeouts for the Nor'easters, who were hampered by four errors in the field.
