Fighting Scots net three after halftime to down UNE

Box Score

WENHAM, Mass. -- After a scoreless first period, Gordon College tallied three scores in the closing 45 minutes to top the University of New England, 3-0, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's soccer contest played Wednesday afternoon at The Quad.

The Scots (3-5-3) move to 2-0-2 in conference matches with the win, while UNE (2-8) drops to 1-4 in league outings.

First-year David Egeler (Danbury, Conn.) got the scoring started for Gordon in the 65th minute, taking a pass from junior Kellen Kasiguran (Oakwood Village, Ohio) and ripping one just under the crossbar.

With the hosts maintaining the 1-0 advantage late into the game, sophomore Andrew Vandervoort (Memphis, Tenn.) added some insurance with back-to-back markers 28 seconds apart inside the final five minutes. Kasiguran served both balls into the middle to where Vandervoort found space amidst the Nor'easter defense.

On the day, Gordon fired off nine shots in each half to end with an 18-7 cushion.

Senior Alex Sosler (Cleveland, Ohio) and sophomore Tim Hardy (Gorham, Maine) split time in net and recorded one stop each for the Fighting Scots, who entertain Salve Regina University on Saturday (2:30 p.m.).

Big Blue, which received seven saves from first-year goalie Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario), is back in action the same day with a home match against Western New England University (2:30 p.m.).
