BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Seniors
Jess Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.) and
Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) each earned a pair of victories as the University of New England women's swim team opened the 2011-12 season with a 143-94 win over Regis College on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.
Sweeney took home first-place honors in the 50-yard freestyle (27.97) and 200-yard freestyle (2:07.31) while Wareham was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.57) and 100-yard free (56.47). Wareham also swam a leg in the Nor'easters' winning 200-yard individual medley entry.
Also earning individual wins for UNE were senior
Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) junior
Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) and first-year Jenn LaComfora (Worcester, Mass.). Shea won the 50-yard breaststroke (34.16), Arsenault the 50-yard backstroke (31.42) and LaComfora the 100-yard back (1:04.75). LaComfora also set a pool record in the 100-yard IM with a time of 1:06.76.
First-years Ana Kudsi (Dover Foxcroft, Maine), Kelly Finn (Melrose, Mass.) and Shannan O'Neil (Lowell, Mass.) claimed individual victories for the Pride (0-2).
UNE returns to action next Saturday when UMass Dartmouth comes to Biddeford for a 1 p.m. meet.
