Nor'easters climb over .500 mark with fifth straight win


STANDISH, Maine -- After a slow start in the opening frame, the University of New England women's volleyball team pulled out a straight set victory over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) Tuesday evening at the Alfond Center. The set scores were 25-20, 25-13, and 25-16.

Winners of 10 of its last 12, Big Blue improves to 12-11 on the season, and the Nor'easters have now won 23 consecutive meetings against the Monks. St. Joe's drops to 15-8 overall with the loss.

First-year Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) posted 13 kills to lead all players, and sophomore Angie Brunette (North Andover, Mass.) chipped in with nine to go along with three solo blocks. Sophomore Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) registered 29 assists and dug out 13 balls, while junior Jackie Stone (Saginaw, Mich.) and senior Abby Davis (Somersworth, N.H.) combined for an additional 28 digs.

UNE heads to Colby College on Wednesday for a non-conference match beginning at 6:30 p.m.
