Seahawks end three-game skid behind Knoth's late score

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Senior Christopher Knoth (East Islip, N.Y.) found the back of the net with just over 12 minutes remaining to lift Salve Regina University to a 2-1 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over the University of New England in men's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Gaudet Field.

The Seahawks win for the first time in four outings, improving to 6-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in league contests. The loss sets the Nor'easters back to 2-10-0 on the year (1-6-0 CCC).

Knoth scored what would prove to be the game-winner at the 77:31 mark, when a pass from first-year Jake Weinshank (Chapel Hill, N.C.) found senior Sean McAllister (Arlington, N.J.) at the right post, and McAllister flicked it back to Knoth in the middle for a hard shot into the left side.

UNE had tied things at 1-1 in the 65th minute, as sophomore Kyle McGlone (Peabody, Mass.) registered his first marker of the season off a feed from junior Ethan Wells (Franconia, N.H.).

Salve went in front during the early portion of the first half courtesy of a 12th-minute goal by first-year Alex Wasilewski (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.), with an assist from classmate Issa Demirgioglu (Smithfield, R.I.).

First-year Kyle Kureczka (Berlin, Conn.) made three saves to get the win in goal for the hosts, who finished with a 20-11 advantage in shots. The Seahawks play again on Wednesday at home against Roger Williams University.

The Nor'easters, who got a seven-save effort from rookie Aidan McParland (Brockville, Ontario), return to action the same day with as Eastern Nazarene College pays a visit to Biddeford. Start time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
