Leah Janelle (Madbury, N.H.) combined for 25 kills to lead the University of New England women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match played Wednesday evening at the Student Center Gym. Set scores were 25-11, 25-18, and 25-16.
Big Blue (9-11) evens its conference record at 3-3 with the triumph, while the Colonels (4-14) remain winless in their five CCC outings.
Curran posted a team-high nine kills to go along with two services aces, two solo blocks, and two block assists. Janelle and Brunette threw in eight kills apiece, as well as four and two aces, respectively. Sophomore setter
Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) tallied 22 assists to help fuel the attack.
Defensively for UNE, senior
Abby Davis (Somersworth, N.H.) had 14 digs, while sophomore
Kirsta Adie (Tyngsboro, Mass.) ended with 13.
Curry was led by first-year Courtney DiBiaso (Coventry, R.I.) with a match-best 12 kills, who also notched 11 digs. Sophomore Samantha Coleman (Reading, Mass.) chipped in with 14 digs. Junior Kaitlyn Poirier (Acushnet, Mass.) had a team-high nine assists.
UNE returns to action on Saturday, hosting a tri-match with the University of Southern Maine (11 a.m.) and Maine Maritime Academy (3 p.m.). The Colonels resume play on Friday, welcoming Bay Path College for a 6 p.m. match.
