Box Score
DUDLEY, Mass. -- The University of New England and Nichols College went on for 110 minutes Saturday evening at Vendetti Field, ending in a 0-0 double overtime tie as regular-season women's soccer action in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) continued.
The Nor'easters -- unbeaten in their last five (3-0-2) -- move to 7-1-2 on the season, and sit at 3-0-1 in CCC play. The Bison are now 3-5-1 (1-2-1 CCC).
Nichols junior netminder Maureen Lynch (Holbrook, Mass.) and UNE senior goalkeeper
Jess Woodworth (Concord, N.H.) each played well to keep the opponent off the board, as Lynch stopped eight shots and Woodworth made four saves.
Each team had a quality scoring chance in the late stages of the match. Senior Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) put forth a bid for the Bison with 30 seconds left in regulation, but the midfielder booted the ball just to the right of the goal.
Big Blue senior
Katie Caron (Winslow, Maine) had a one-on-one opportunity thwarted midway through the second overtime session, but Lynch was there to deny the attempt and preserve the stalemate.
UNE out-shot Nichols, 12-5, in the match, and were awarded all nine corner kicks during the contest.
Both teams return to the pitch on Tuesday. The Nor'easters head to Gordon College for a 3:30 p.m. conference tilt, while the Bison visit Rhode Island College for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.
