BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Six individuals won one event each for Roger Williams University as the Hawks defeated the University of New England women's swimming team, 130-124, Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.
RWU sophomore Ashley Kichline (Souderton, Pa.) and first-year Kristen Grandonico (Portland, Maine) took the 200-yard backstroke and 50-yard breaststroke events, respectively, and both set new pool records in the process.
Kichline clocked a time of 2:19.73, besting the mark of 2:23.91 posted by UNE's
Meaghan Arsenault last season. Grandonico registered 32.76 in her win, topping the record of 34.19 set by UNE senior
Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) two years ago.
In the closest race of the day, Hawks sophomore Melly Marrington (Farmington, Conn.) edged teammate Erin Carlson (Watertown, Conn.) by .03 seconds to claim the 50-yard freestyle event (26.75).

Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.) out-sprinted (57.85) Carlson (58.62) in the 100 free to notch one of her three individual wins on the day. Wareham also won the 50-yard (28.52) and 200-yard (2:26.84) butterfly events.
RWU senior Caitlin O'Connor (Wallingford, Conn.), along with first-years Christine Vertullo (Speonk, N.Y.) and Heather Beardsworth (Dover, N.H.), accounted for the other event victories for the Hawks.
The Nor'easters received one win apiece from Shea, junior
Jessica Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.), and first-year
Alex Gabriels (East Greenbush, N.Y.).
Roger Williams (2-4) is back in action Friday at home against Gordon College (5 p.m.).
Big Blue (6-2), which saw its six-meet win streak come to an end, is off until next Saturday (Jan. 29, 1 p.m.) when it travels to Colby-Sawyer College.
