Nor'easters breeze to their fifth consecutive triumph

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England Nor'easters picked up their fifth straight win with a 168-47 decision over Gordon College in a women's swimming meet Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

Juniors Lizzie Wareham (Osterville, Mass.), Nori McLeod (Wiscasset, Maine) and Jessica Sweeney (Hampton, N.H.) and sophomore Meaghan Arsenault (Methuen, Mass.) each won a pair of individual events for the Nor'easters (5-1). Wareham was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly (1:03.58) and 100-yard freestyle (58.46). McLeod earned first-place honors in the 50-yard fly (30.88) and 50-yard back (32.01), while Sweeney won the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.25) and 500-yard free (5:50.47). Arsenault was first in the 50-free (27.61) and 100-yard backstroke (1:06.69).

The Nor'easters also recevied winning performances from junior Sara Shea (Peabody, Mass.) and first-year Briana Hirst (Amherst, N.H.). Shea topped the field in the 100-yard breaststroke and Hirst claimed the 50-yard breaststroke.

Arsenault, Shea, Wareham and sophomore Rachel Hanley (Wiscasset, Maine) posted a time of 2:00.68 for first place in the 200-yard medley relay.

Big Blue returns to action Monday (Jan. 17) with a home meet versus St. Joseph's College. Gordon (2-4) travels to Chicopee, Mass. next Saturday (Jan. 22) for a tri-meet with host Elms College and Norwich University.
